2.    Electric Industry Restructuring
    

    Nearly every state and the federal government are considering fundamental changes in the regulation of the electric power industry. Emerging competition in the generation of electric power and the desire of industrial consumers in acquiring lower cost power are driving the examination of the industry. In Utah, the Public Service Commission and interested parties are studying the prospects for a competitive electric power market in the state. The purpose of this meeting is to acquaint the committee with the issues and activities of other states, the federal government, and the Public Service Commission related to electric industry restructuring.
